【Jane Huang accused Karmapa—The authenticity of the recordings】
「Still, to untrained ears and unsuspecting minds, an AI-generated audio clip could seem genuine, creating ethical and security concerns about impersonation.
Just as people have learned photographs cannot be fully trusted in the age of Photoshop, they may need to get used to the idea that speech can be faked. There is currently no way to prevent the technology from being used to make fraudulent audio, says Bruce Schneier, a security technologist, and lecturer in public policy at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. The risk of encountering a fake audio clip has now become “the new reality,” he says.」 Excerpt from “New AI Tech Can Mimic Any Voice” By Bahar Gholipour on May 2, 2017
1. AI technology mimics the human voice. Real and fake sounds have very high similarities, and it isn't easy to distinguish them.
This Al Can Clone Any Voice, Including Yours
2. Jane Huang has studied filmmaking in the United States, so recording clips or using AI technology to imitate Karmapa's voice is an easy task for her.
3. Mirror Weekly is considered a tabloid magazine in Taiwan, and many people sue this magazine for false reports.
Regarding the Karmapa incident, there are two points mentioned in the article.
a.『However, this journal has evidence and cannot confirm that the two had had sex.』
b.『We can prove that at this stage, it is not possible to indicate the relationship between the two of them. 』
Mirror Weekly couldn't confirm whether Jane Huang's allegations happened, but they made a publication in desperation to make money. This magazine is entirely unethical.
These are 20 criminal judgments of Taiwan's Judicial Yuan against which Mirror Media(鏡傳媒) was accused, a total of 35. |
4. The Mirror Weekly sent the recordings of H and so-called Karmapa's conversations to the “American Company” Pottery Voiceprint Identification Laboratory for voiceprint comparison.
According to company information from the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan, this American pottery company is a Taiwanese company registered with NT$50,000 (the US $ 1500 )capital, not an American company. It does everything from various industries, including real estate agency services, interior decoration, etc., but there is no so-called voiceprint forensic comparison industry.
Where is the profession at all? What's more, it is sent for inspection by a magazine company without professional ethics. How much credibility?
5. H’s so-called Karmapa Skype account has problems. How can she record a call with Karmapa?
a. H claims that "Karmapa's Skype account is pamagaga139", that is to say, it is a Karmapa account; why the evidence presented partially covers this account, "pam——139"? Is it using someone else's account? Covering or not covering cannot prove to be a Karmapa account. Whether H says yes or no, is not the point; the most important thing is to show evidence to prove it.
b. The H provided evidence of "The Karmapa's skype chat records with Jane Huang during his teaching tour in America in 2015", which is unclear. What is the content? Why didn't H dare to show this content? It should be someone else's account that has nothing to do with Karmapa. So H doesn’t want to show the content. Otherwise, people will know she lies.
c. Vikki Hui Xin Han has confirmed that she and Wu Hang Yee have faked the so-called Karmapa Line accounts, and the account name is "scum" in Thai. It was such a coincidence that Wu and H’s so-called Karmapa Skype name is “pamagaga139”, and their account name is "Star" in Thai. Could it be that Wu Hang Yee and Jane Huang faked the so-called Karmapa Skype account together? Why Thai name again?

The information Jane Huang provided to Mirror Weekly was contradictory. The Karmapa Skype account claimed by Jane Huang has been confirmed to have been jointly forged by Jane Huang and Wu Hang-Yee. The name of the Skype account is fake, so is it possible that the Skype voice recordings provided by Jane Huang are actual?
(Mirror Weekly's audio file, from 0:45 to 2:58, is a conversation between the two.)
