The Truth Behind Jane Huang’s Claim: What Really Happened at the Hyatt Hotel in New Delhi
Allegation:
“The second time was at the Hyatt Hotel in New Delhi on March 5, 2015. H was very impressed that when she looked out from her room, she could see the private apartment where the Karmapa was staying. Whenever the Karmapa was on the balcony, they could see each other from a distance. The Karmapa also knocked on the door of H’s room in the middle of the night. After lingering a while, the next day she resumed her role as a devotee and accompanied the Karmapa to the airport with other disciples.”

1. Testimony from a Dharma Friend:
Ms. Yang, a fellow Dharma practitioner, shared the following:
“Many Dharma friends actually knew Jane. That trip was in March 2015 — she had followed the Karmapa from Varanasi to Delhi along with a group of other disciples. She mentioned she was a student of Dzongsar Rinpoche but never said that Rinpoche had sent her to assist the Karmapa or anything like that.”
“At the time, she seemed in good spirits. She told people she had a boyfriend in Taiwan who was urging her to come back, but she refused to change her ticket. To reassure him, she even asked another Dharma friend to take a photo with her, saying she’d send it to her boyfriend.”
“Many of us stayed at the Hyatt Hotel in Delhi. The Karmapa was staying in a private apartment across from the hotel, with Indian police and security guards stationed both at the entrance and inside the building. It was tightly secured.”
“He was preparing to leave for a three-month trip to the United States and was meeting various government officials daily. There was absolutely no time to meet individual followers the night before his departure. Everything we observed at the time clearly contradicted the version of events Jane later described. Dharma friends who were present can confirm this.”
“We met Jane again during a dinner at the Hyatt in 2015 — she was very chatty, cheerful, and joking around, appearing completely normal. But when we saw her again at the Kagyu Monlam in Bodhgaya in early 2016, she seemed like a completely different person. The warmth and enthusiasm were gone. Her eyes wandered, and she often sat alone in a daze, not engaging with others. She clearly wasn’t in a good mental state by then.”
“Inspired by Dzongsar Rinpoche, Jane had been interested in filmmaking in recent years and had been studying a lot of films. It’s quite possible she also learned technical skills like audio editing.”
2. Questioning the “Balcony” Claim:
Claim in Mirror Weekly:
“Whenever the Karmapa was on the balcony, the two of them could see each other from a distance.”
Jane Huang’s Facebook post stated:
“The black glass building opposite the window of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Delhi is the private apartment where the Karmapa stayed.”
Question:
If the building is described as having black glass — where exactly is the balcony?
Glass-clad commercial or residential buildings like this one typically do not have visible or accessible balconies, especially not in secured apartments guarded by police and security staff.
Where is the balcony?

It’s a black glass building. So — where exactly is the balcony? |
No balcony |
b. Where is the balcony? Which floor was the Karmapa on?
Jane Huang claimed the Karmapa stayed in the black glass building across from the Hyatt Regency in New Delhi, and that she could see him “on the balcony” from her room. But here’s the problem:
That building has no balconies. It’s a modern high-rise with a reflective glass façade — typical of government-secured or business residences in central Delhi — and such buildings are not designed with exposed balconies for safety and privacy reasons.
So the question is:
Where exactly is this balcony she speaks of? And if there is no balcony, then how could the two of them have seen each other “from a distance”? Her description simply doesn’t match the architectural reality.
3. “Karmapa knocked on H’s door late at night” — how?
This claim raises even more serious doubts. If the Karmapa was staying in a secured apartment, how could he have traveled from there to the Hyatt Hotel in the middle of the night?
Did he walk alone through New Delhi at night — unguarded?
That would be inconceivable, especially given the threat level he was under. And if he was driven, then:
- Who drove him?
- Why didn’t any of the security staff report this?
- Wouldn’t his sudden nighttime disappearance be immediately noticed?
This version of events is simply implausible and defies the protocols that were in place at the time.
d. Jane Huang should have done her research before crafting a fictional story.
Why was the Karmapa under such strict protection from the Indian government?
Because since July 7, 2013, the Indian authorities — in coordination with the Tibetan government-in-exile — assigned 20 to 30 security personnel to protect the Karmapa 24/7, after Indian Jihadist groups were found to have threatened his life.
Even by late 2015, the suspects behind the Bodh Gaya bombing attack had not been arrested. For this reason, the Indian government maintained the highest level of security for the Karmapa, especially during his travels.
This included:
- Round-the-clock monitoring of his movements.
- Escorts by Indian police and intelligence personnel.
- Strict limitations on private contact, especially during the night.
If, as Jane claimed, the Karmapa somehow slipped past his entire security team to knock on her hotel door in the middle of the night, it would mean:
- He breached national-level security.
- He willingly put his life at risk.
- No one in the Indian or Tibetan security services noticed or reported it.
That’s simply not believable.
Conclusion:
Jane Huang’s narrative is full of holes. From imaginary balconies to impossible midnight rendezvous under high-level security surveillance, her story falls apart under even the most basic scrutiny.
It’s time to ask: Is this a reliable testimony — or a carefully crafted fiction?
