Since 2009, the True Enlightenment Education Foundation, led by Hsiao Pingshi, has been engaged in various activities in Taiwan to defame and slander His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Tibetan Buddhism. This prolonged and continuous campaign of defamation has caused significant distress to Tibetan Buddhist believers in Taiwan. To defend the innocence of Tibetan Buddhism and His Holiness Dalai Lama, the Tibetan Government in Exile, represented by the Tibetan Religious Foundation of His Holiness Dalai Lama in Taiwan, filed a lawsuit against the True Enlightenment Education Foundation in April 2011. After eight years of litigation, justice was finally served, and the court ruled in favor of the Tibetan Religious Foundation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, declaring the True Enlightenment Education Foundation’s defeat.

On August 31, 2012, the Taipei District Court ruled that Hsiao Chieh-jen (also known as Hsiao Pingshi) was guilty of defamation through written statements and sentenced him to 55 days in jail. Justice waits for its time to come

Since Karmapa went to Europe and the United States to promote Dharma in 2017, the Karmapa Incident forced him to live in seclusion and isolate himself from the outside world for many years. It was not until the New Year of 2024 that Goshir Gyaltsab Rinpoche finally reunited with the Karmapa in his hermitage. Gyaltsab Rinpoche’s long-standing ambition is to become the guardian of the Karmapa and defend the Kagyu lineage. Although the two met for a short time, the significance of this encounter was extraordinary.

The Karmapa Incident involves multiple countries and has become a focal point of international attention, with many mainstream international media outlets reporting on it. This incident not only threatens the life safety of the Karmapa but also has far-reaching negative impacts on the Karma Kagyu lineage and the entire Tibetan Buddhist community. This incident aims to defame the Karmapa and undermine the continuity of the Karma Kagyu lineage. If Karmapa doesn't prove his innocence, it will severely affect his ability to spread the Dharma worldwide, potentially leading to his permanent seclusion. This outcome aligns with the intentions of the orchestrators of the incident, indicating the successful destruction of the Karmapa's plans. This incident not only concerns the Karmapa personally but also affects the overall image of Tibetan Buddhism. Moreover, many practitioners have lost confidence in the Karmapa, the Dharma, and Tibetan Buddhism, affecting their spiritual practice. Therefore, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and the Tibetan government-in-exile will exert all efforts to defend the interests of Tibetan Buddhism.

In the spring of 2022, during the teachings, the Karmapa emphasized the necessity of clarifying defamation and slander and stressed the importance of preventing slander from spreading to future generations. According to Karmapa's dream prophecy, the judicial authorities will confirm his innocence, much like the Taiwan Dalai Lama defamation case mentioned earlier, through legal procedures and court scrutiny to ascertain the truth. While justice might experience some delay, it does not imply the absence of a judicial investigation. The Karmapa Incident will not linger unresolved; ultimately, the judicial authorities will confirm Karmapa's innocence. It's only a matter of time, so please patiently await the arrival of good news! Once all parties are held accountable, the Karmapa will embark on his journey back to India, specifically Sikkim. Subsequently, he will travel to various parts of the world to spread the Dharma and benefit beings, with Nepal and Bhutan as his first destinations, where he will meet with local practitioners. The Karmapa publicly announced this travel plan in early 2023.
