【China's Operation Fox Hunt & False Karmapa Allegation】(Summary)

Since His Holiness the Dalai Lama fled Tibet for India in 1959, China has seen His Holiness the Dalai Lama as China's number one enemy. In 2000, the 14-year-old Karmapa fled communist China to join His Holiness the Dalai Lama in India, which attracted international media attention and reports, and China lost all face.

Zhao Lijian, spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs: "China's overseas Operation Fox Hunt to arrest fugitive suspects is to safeguard the sanctity of the law."

In 2014, China’s Operation Fox Hunt (Skynet) captured dissidents and returned them to China. China believes that the Karmapa fled China without approval and violated Chinese laws. Therefore, the Karmapa is also one of the targets of their Operation Fox Hunt. (The pro-democracy protesters of the Tiananmen Student Movement in 1989 were also targets of Operation Fox Hunt)

Trapping the Karmapa

In 2015, China extended a gesture of goodwill to the Karmapa, permitting the dissemination of his teachings in China and Tibet. The communication between Karmapa and China proceeded smoothly. On his birthday in the United States on June 26, 2017, Karmapa expressed his desire to visit Tibet.「I hope, therefore, that within the next two or three years, I can go to the Land of Snows and meet my parents in our homeland. I will try my best for this to happen.」

In 2015, China purportedly extended goodwill to the Karmapa, ostensibly offering a sincere invitation to welcome him back to his hometown. However, it is claimed that this turned out to be a deceptive ploy, trapping Karmapa in a situation that he found unfavorable.

September 10, 2018, The Tribune India reported that “China has formally requested the United States to hand over the Karmapa to it.”

Return to China or commit suicide

The Safeguard Defenders’ report stated that "With involuntary returns, the CCP's message is that nowhere is safe; fleeing overseas will not save you, there is no escape," “And what happens when Fox Hunt targets refuse to return to China?  The target had two options: return to China promptly, or commit suicide. ” FBI director Christopher Asher Wray.

The attempt to lure the Karmapa back to China reportedly failed, prompting an alleged deliberate plan to discredit him. Faced with unsuccessful discrediting, there were purported discussions of an extreme measure: "Assassination." Concerns for Karmapa's safety led to the decision not to disclose his whereabouts at this time.

Transnational Repression

The transnational repression against the Karmapa involved diverse tactics, including attempts to compel his return to China, espionage, frivolous lawsuits, media coverage, cyberattacks, and online disinformation campaigns.

Vikki Han, Wu Hang Yee, and Jane Huang faced accusations of fabricating evidence to slander the Karmapa. Allegedly, the asserted claims of girlfriends, sexual assault, a daughter, DNA tests, multi-million dollar hush money, and settlements were refuted as false narratives intended to harm the Karmapa's reputation.

Conclusion

The Karmapa predicted that this event would be resolved through legal means, and they would ultimately fail in their plans.

Upon revelation of the truth regarding the false allegations, the Karmapa will return to Sikkim, India, amidst a grand celebration.  After the incident, with obstacles cleared, the Karmapa will be free to propagate the Dharma and benefit beings worldwide, thus expanding and broadening his Buddhist activities.
